Career
UX Designer
A UX Designer makes services usable, useful and inclusive. You own research that changes decisions, the experience quality bar, and the evidence that a design is ready to build. You are not a pixel factory for every stakeholder whim, and you are not a late accessibility decorator.

What this job is responsible for
- User research plans and findings that attach to backlog and design decisions
- Interaction and service design quality across journeys, not only screens
- Accessibility as a floor (WCAG) baked into critique and acceptance, not bolted on
- Design system use (including GOV.UK Design System where relevant) over one-off invention
- Critique culture that improves work without turning into HiPPO theatre
- Assessment and handover evidence so build teams inherit intent, not mystery Figma files
Signs things are going well
- Research findings visibly reorder or reshape work; unused research is challenged
- Prototypes answer questions; polish is not a substitute for learning
- Accessibility issues are found in design and build, not only in final audit panic
- GOV.UK or team design system patterns are the default, with rare justified exceptions
- Critique names problems and next experiments, not taste wars
- Service assessment evidence stays warm across Alpha and Beta
How this role works with nearby roles
- Product Owner: Owns value bets and backlog order. You turn proven insights into experience options they can prioritise.
- Business Analyst: Owns problem framing and requirements detail. You deepen user evidence and interaction quality together.
- Delivery Manager: Owns pace and team health. You protect research and critique time as part of sustainable delivery, not optional polish.
- Software Tester: Owns quality risk and test strategy. You share accessibility and journey acceptance criteria early.
